# Local model vs the hosted desk

Local CodeSync SI keeps the repository on your machine and uses Ollama. The hosted desk stores projects in R2 and bills a monthly plan.

Local and hosted run the same engine, but the boundary is different. Locally, files stay on disk and the model is whichever server you pointed at, Ollama by default. On codesyncsi.com, files are uploaded or fetched from GitHub into R2, and the default model is Workers AI for your plan.

Pick local when the code cannot leave the machine or you do not want a subscription. Pick hosted when you want an account, run history, a team seat count, and the plan features. Extreme is the hosted plan with the features the others lack. Neither path trains a CodeSync SI model on your repository.
